This kind of thing is exceedingly rare. The last time something this bad happened was in 1966. It was absolutely horrible and tragic, but you have to remember there were thousands and thousands of kids on that campus, hundreds of teachers. They survived.
It is extremely unlikely that this will happen to you. The world is actually the safest it has ever been. It doesn't feel that way because the news from all over the world is brought right into our living rooms.
My hope is that they will find a way to prevent this sort of thing from happening by learning more about the warning signs and that the families will find some way to heal.
You're certainly not unusual - being nervous after something like this makes sense, but remember that it is very unusual and even so, most of the people on the campus survived.

I feel the same way you do. Especially because there are more threats now in my school district. In one school there were three threats that people were going to start shooting Friday because it will be the anniversary of the columbine shooting. One kid was probably suspended and now I am very scared that if he's suspended from his school that he is going to come to my school and carry out with his plan. I know this might not happen but the police went to his house and took only a few guns and still left some. I know a lot of people feel the way you do, your not alone.

I am afraid for my neices who are still in school. It could happen anywhere, a mall, a gathering like a concert, school, work, what's next? I think it is very sad that no one noticed that this guy was rather strange and a bit disturbed before he went off on innocent people. I heard that some of the teachers had voiced concern about him and the way he wrote in Lit class. Like I said, I worry about my neices who are still in school and my sister who works in the counseling office at a school. They have had scares at her school before too. It's a crazy world out there and we all have to be careful, stay aware of what's going on around us and pray that nothing else like this happens. I feel so sorry for the families of those who were killed.

No. We're all going to die, as George Carlin says, it's on our schedule. I could die tomorrow on the way to work, or you could fall down some stairs. It's horrible to think about. That's why I don't. Anything could happen at any time so you need to live and not worry about it.

i think its alright being scared. someone can bring a gun to school or a hospital anytime. it can happen anywhere. i think its alright to beware and take extra precautions of someone with a gun. after these things happen people feel like things like Virginia tech can happen to them but after a few weeks everything will cool down and you wont feel so afraid.
