When I was a child we had blue laws. They prohibited most businesses to open on Sundays. As a result people were home in thier yards on thier porches. They knew thier neighbors, thier neighbors children. They looked out for each other. They were courdious toward each other. They cared enough to Identifie thier neighbors killer.

Unconstitutional and therefore illegal.

It's nice to think that things were once like that but unfortunately it wouldn't work for today's society. Today is all about the money and the greed. No one would be willing to conform to laws that require them to close store and lose money. Not to mention you'd have to deal with all the radicals who oppose anything to do with Sundays because they don't believe in religion. I'm afraid the peaceful world you knew as a child has been replaced with violence and a thirst for blood.

i should not be bound by the beliefs of any religion. and that is what the blue laws were about.

assume that i want to go out for a picnic on sunday. but i cannot buy gas anywhere because the country is shut down.

or there is a bad strom predicted on sunday morning and nobody can get supplies because all the stores are closed for business.

no if i business wants to shut down that is fine. but i may want towork or shop or go out to eat. and i should have that privelage assuming that there is somebody that wishes to serve me.

Another tradition lost in America thanks to the greedy & libs. Tell me WHAT is wrong with just ONE day when stores were closed? Would your life really end? Is it easier to hate religion because you felt you've been victimized? WHY don't you take care of your buisness the OTHER 6 days? Finally if you just CAN'T do without buying something I guess you could always use the web since it didn't exist back in the "Dark Ages."

no it was stil here in sc for awhile longer then anywhere else, we fought to get rid of them. Its bad for bussiness, bad for the community, bad for people who needed to buy stuff before 1:30. Our community and state thinks those old blue laws were outdated...we cant keep moving forward and growing if those kind of laws hold us back.
And did it really do all the good you speak of ? NO. People still killed others. And it only served good for christanity people because they have church on sundays, the rest of us it was a hinderance.

Uh, Blue Laws aren't gonna better enable anyone to 'care enough to identify their neighbors killer'. Don't you think people will just kill more often on Monday-Saturday????

I think that would be nice. A day just for families to spend some quality time, with having to worry about work or anything. I wish we could get back to those "good ole"days. I bet our society would improve a lot!

It's a nice idea for people to be able to be home with their families, but it is a bad idea to force everyone to not work or stay home based on certain other people's religious beliefs. Blue laws are based on religious beliefs.

What decade are you talking about? I don't thinkg Blue Laws could function in today's society. . .it would hurt business and that's not good. . . :(
