Just am passionate about italy even though I'm not italian + was wondering if anyone has some old fashioned, good sounding italian male names/even new ones...I like giovanni, but everyone seems to be naming their children giovanni these days...The boys first name will be Sofian (male version of sofia--dad likes it WAY more than I do, but I'll give him a say since I named my other 2 children), so if an italian name can flow w/ that that'd be great. However, sofian just doesn't fit w/ anything. But that's ok, I really want to have an italian name on the birth certif.

I'm not sure if you meant both names (first and middle) should be Italian or just middle (I tell you because Sofian is male, but not Italian); anyway, if you want to be sure the name you choose is Italian for real (a lot of name suggested by non-Italian people when somebody else asked your same question were not Italian at all), you can look here: http://www.nomix.it/700a.php (maschili = males, femminili = females)
or here http://www.gens.labo.net/it/nomi/

Be careful, anyway, since some names may not be in use anymore or are anyway not advisable: I know one person who's name is Calimero, but if you ask in Italy everybody will tell you Calimero is a chick (one of the most famous Italian cartoon till the 60s). So, look if you find a name you like, then I suggest to come back to answer asking Italian people (real Italian who actually live in Italy) if the name is OK, then ask English mother language how they think it sounds in English.

Sorry - I don't care for Sofian, it looks nice, but it sounds a little feminine. I like Dante, Armond, Brando, Marco, Stefano, and Giovanni - trust me, I'm pretty sure he would be the only Giovanni in his class, so if you like it, use it! It is my favorite Italian name.
My girl's names both appeared in the top 25 names for thier respective years of birth, and I have yet to run into another girl w/either of thier names that are around thier ages, so you'll be fine. Chloe - 2002, Brooke 2004
