What is this 'Community of Understanding' he's talking about? Do you really think he believes this could have been prevented?

He's just using words verbage and jargon and doesn't know how to ever write a question correctly. Why can't he just say, "How can an understanding community help..."? He's just striving for self-promotion so that people will buy his books. He isn't even interesting, just annoying.

Community of understanding is rather an intuitive statement ,
Perhaps after you sleep on it , it will become clear .

And yes , IF people were more community oriented and less ego centric , these tragedies would reduce .
However , the self centered mindset is so common in the US in the last several decades , that changing to a community mindset may be a very tough hurdle .

well see now that's the issue - much like "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" ... you see, can we stop this from happening again ... sure, the same exact person doing it again on the same exact day to the same exact people, of course we could stop that now - because we have all the info we need to stop HIM.

However ... can we stop the next one, no. We might be able to stop one or two, three or four, but we have been doing that through time and nothing new from this is going to teach us how to stop anyone else just make it almost worse by alienating those who are the quiet loner shy types ....

It's a first step to take, however small it may be.

However, although it's great to see that people want to take action to prevent this, I don't think this will cure the mental illness that these killers have.

It's not as simple as reaching out to the killer and being a friend...if they're mentally unstable, it's most likely going to manifest itself whether or not he has a "community of understanding."

He is basically asking what can we do as a community to understand each other more so that we can try even more to help prevent a tradegy like VA.

Do you think there is some hidden sub-text in his question? It seems pretty straight forward to me.

I think he means that we need to teach our children to not torment other kids, b/c different people have different threshholds. Some of these (including the VT incident) would still happen, b/c this was not out of being bullied, but the rest which are generally a product of peer torment, would be reduced.
