Proclaiming love for the wife is an effort to keep the "IN HOUSE" satisfied and at bay so that his encounters with the "STRANGE" wont be so obvious.
The first sign of cheating is usually revocation of affection for your spouse...and a damn good way to get caught.

For the same reason a woman married to a man and claims to love them cheat.....It goes both ways, but I think people cheat because either they ... 1>don't really want to be in the relationship 2>are confused and don't know what they want 3>just like the "feeling" of being wanted/doing something wrong 4>or want revenge for the other hurting them There are probably more but I'd say these are probably the most common

There is obviously some major problems in the relationship. It's not always about sex. He may cheat on you emotionally and not have sex with the other person. He may love you in different ways as maybe the mother of his children, or as a friend. The sizzle has left the relationship due to the fact that you both may have just grown apart and have nothing in common any longer. If sex was involved. Try to find out why it happened and if your relationship is worth salvaging. There could be many factors involved for his reason for doing it,
drugs, alcohol, addiction personality, or alienation of affection. Find out the cause and start from there.
Best of luck to you both.

Because he wants the stability of his wife, knowing he has someone to come home to every night while still having the opportunity to look for excitement in the thrill of the possibility of getting caught. For anyone to cheat is just plain immature and selfish. Love doesn't even play into the whole ordeal. Love is just a word (in this situation anyway) that is said to try and keep things going in the cheaters favor.
I have to add this because I am so disgusted with all these infidelity answers:
I CAN NOT STAND OR TOLERATE ANYONE WILLING TO CHEAT ON THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHER. I FIND THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR DISGUSTING AND ANYONE FOUND BEHAVING THIS WAY, AS BARBARIC AS IT SOUNDS, SHOULD HAVE THE LETTER A BURNED INTO THEIR FORHEADS.

Lots of reasons excitement, lust, not thinking with his brain at the time, rough times in a marrriage...he would claim that he still loved her because the other cheater wont stick around or he knows she'll forgive him and even if his pride wont say it he needs her.But their is no excuse for cheating and it takes alot to gain that trust back.

Because he knows divorce cost's a lot of money if hew truly ever loved you then he should not have cheated in the first place. He feels guilty and he is trying to smooth things over.
What ever you do do not go cheat on him then he will feel his lack in his ways are justified make him sweat.

It all boils down to attention. If a man isn't getting it at home (I mean attention and sex) he will get it somewhere else. I truly feel like if women fullfilled their mens needs - they wouldn't stray. He can still love his wife - but look elsewhere for the attention that he isn't getting.

Because of a number of different reasons...Like:
a) Sheer stupidity
b) Selfishness
c) Immaturity
d) Manipulative technique
e) He knows this will buy him time
f) He's too much of a wimp to break it off and he wants her to be the one to leave.
The possibilities are endless.......(( BTW, If this is you, you have two options: A) Believe him (and live in doubt your whole life) OR B) Kick him out and divorce him.))
You know what they say..."Once a cheater, always a cheater."
