If you'd ever had something tailor fitted for you, you wouldn't ask that question! A tailor will take your clothes and make them fit you perfectly in all the right places. Generally, people use a tailor for dressier items like suits, slacks and dresses (slacks???? what am I, 89??). My husband has a huge neck (17 1/2"), and the only shirts with that neck size is one up from what he needs. So we buy those and have the tailor alter the sides and back to fit his body better. Otherwise it'd hang on him like a curtain.

I have my suits made for me by a tailor in Saville Row, London. My father used the same tailoring company for years as does my brother. Expensive suits at around £3000 a time, but they fit beautifully and last a long time.

Clothing tailors are very important. If it wasn't for tailoring I would have a hard time finding jeans or trousers that weren't 3 inches too long. For us short women, jeans & trousers are made at long lengths that don't fit us. It helps to have a fitted look overall and it's tacky to just cut them off. It's not professional nor does it look good.

Important? I'm assuming you mean why is having a tailor so essential to your wardrobe?

Because unless you have a budget of a star, that's the closest you'll ever get to wearing and owning haute couture garments.

Any well-made, high-priced, haute couture garment, is always tailored well to a person's body, it hangs well, fits well, and looks impeccable. Mainstream clothing is made for well.. mainstream. So it's looser, to fit more body types, and not as fitted to YOUR personal shape.

A tailor can also take up your jeans in an Euro hem (and keep the wonderful stitching that can't be replicated anywhere but in jean factories), they can adjust clothes to fit your body after you've lost weight, let out fabric so that it fits better, completely reshape and recut any garment so it looks better on you (e.g. a shift dress made out of a long-sleeved dress), and they can also change out buttons to change out a look......

they make your clothing fit properly..unless you can put on any pair of pants in a store and they fit you perfect..yea its not that easy, the better thing to do is to find jeans that you like a lot and work for your body and make sure that they fit the biggest part of you, then if they dont fit right in other places go to a tailor and get it fixed.

It's something everyone doesn't have a talent for ..and what they do is important to many . Many of our ancestors were tailors , if you look in the early census records .

The really good ones can make a suit from scratch that fits you .
The others can adjust an off- the- rack garment to fit also ,
Since most off - the - rack will not fit many people correctly .
