my husband is in the military, you deal with it one day at a time. You will miss him, and he will miss you. You will cherish the time you do get together.

You should talk to ladies married to military men. Mine was gone for 15 months. It's hard but you learn to adjust. In some ways it's kind of fun, like dating again.

Get him a laptop computer so the two of you can IM each other. A Webcam helps a lot too. It's a great way to re-discover the reasons you fell in love.

And, it can be a very empowering time for you as well. You will have to learn to do for yourself and be self-reliant. You cold discover a whole new side to yourself! I managed to get a job working on a construction crew for the summer while my hubby was away. It was a blast! And since my hubby is a shop teacher when he's not serving in the Army, I could actually talk to him about tools and carpentry and understand things. It was a great way for us to become closer.

Your experience will either be positive or negative depending on YOUR ATTITUDE. Go into this with a "poor me, my man is away" attitude and you WILL be unhappy. But go into it with a "I'm going to make the best of this and show him I can be strong for him" attitude, and you will be just fine!

I'm an army wife and we have spent so much time apart it's crazy. Anyway you just keep busy and don't dwell on how lonely you are. When you are with him then you need to enjoy it and not be upset thinking about that he'll be leaving again. Also don't fight over petty stuff because when you are apart and you've had a fight over something stupid then either you're filled with regret for being dumb or you stew in anger over something that isn't a big deal. Honestly you get used to them being gone and it gets easier. And think about it this way...you get some time off from picking up after him and the whole bed to yourself! Got to look on the bright side! ;-)

I worked with a custom harvesting crew, and that's a job where your gone for months at a time. Not the best job for someone who's married with kids.

I also have been an over the road truck driver. I love my wife and kids so much, and it was hard for me to be away from them. I know it's going to be difficult, but something that worked for my wife and I was we talked on the phone with each other when we had the chance to. And kept in contact.

Hope that helps.

Make sure he takes a laptop with him so he can email you and a web cam so you two can see and speak to each other thats how you get through him being gone for so long. Cell phone with G.P.S. tracking helps you know where he's at . ha-ha

Don't accept it, rent your house out, and move with him. You only have one life and the marriage is over babe if you don't. Guys will get used to the routine and start his own pattern of living without you. Wait and see. That you'd go for this is naive'. These long shore fishermans wives I see getting it on the side.

Military wives go through it all the time. Try to find some support groups they use.
