Oblivion (xbox 360) character builds.?

Question

I've read a few guildes on character building in oblivion.. and I have played the game a bit (a friend's character). Soon I will be making a character and playing the game pretty hardcore. I would appreciate any advice on good skill builds. I have decided on a few things already.
Race: Breton.. maybe dark elf
Birth Sign: I really don't know .. could use some suggestions here
Skills: For sure I want Blade, destruction, and Conjuration. (please add the next 4 for me considering those 3 set in stone)

.. Also I'm a bit confused on some of the leveling processes. If someone could explain the best way to level up your character while keeping it very strong compared with enemys it would be appreciated.

first you have to know you want to play the game. you say blade, destruction and conjuration perfect for what i picked: me - i wanted to be able to do a little of everything especially magic, thieving, and combat. i picked DARK ELF(magic/thief) and the sigh of the SPELLSWORD (combat/magic) and class of BATTLEMAGE (major skills to match - see below). and i don't have any trouble in the game. where as my friend wanted to be a super thief - picked the thief sign and a dark elf as well. everything was suited best for a thief except now he can't fight. he gets his *** kicked in combat, which is a major part of the game. bottom line, i would pick something that isn't specialized in just one field (whether its magic or combat or whatever), the way you will PLAY the game, you character will level up that way. for example, if you like to fight a lot, your heavy armor, blade, block skill will increase faster than your sneak and illusion skills.

leveling up - there are 21 skills. depending on what sign you pick will determine which of those are your MAJOR 7 skills. once you level up (in any combo) 10 of your major skills, you will level up 1 level (after you sleep in a bed - don't ask).

BATTLEMAGE: major skills include the three skills you wanted most (blade, destruction, and conjuration).

below is the link that shows which sign goes with which major skill set. however, please be fore warned that if actually is beneficial (especially in the first half of the game) if you level up less. oblivion is not like other RPGs in that when you level up so does your enemies.
