Just in: The Supreme Court Upheld (a 5 to 4 vote) the nationwide ban on partial-birth abortion. (I have nooo problem with this, it's too awful to entertain unless they somehow just discover (?) irreperable/devasting fetus injury) BUT: WHY do people who think all manner of law imposes on their right to...-whatever, think NOTHING of telling a woman what she may/may NOT do vis-a-vis her own body??

This abortion thing is a major example of turning religious values into a national political issue. Any woman has the right to decide what is done to her body. I want to make this a short answer like most answers I give. So I will not elaborate in great detail.

My two sons would have never been born if their mother had not gotten a back alley abortion when she was 21, Yes, a very dangerous procedure because it was illegal then. She was unmarried and the man who got her pregnant ran. Being a farm girl her parents would have disowned her and working at the telephone company they would have fired her.
We met 3 years later ,married and we had two boys. We divorced unfortunately and 4 years later she remarried. I heard through the grapevine that they had 2 boys and a girl.
I tell you this only to point out that if she had gone on to have that child she aborted there are 5 human beings alive and doing well that would have never been born.

Partial birth abortion takes place in the third trimester when the fetus is viable outside the womb. We're not talking about a regular vacume proceedure. Partial birth abortions are JUST THAT. The baby's HEAD is extruding from the mother. It's FACE is RIGHT FRIGGIN THERE. Then Scissors snip the spinal cord, and the brains are scrambled as the baby is pulled out. Does this seem "right" to you?
And if the Doctor can't forsee this in advance, then he's an idiot and shouldn't be practicing medicine. There is ALWAYS time for an emergency C section. This type of abortion is not deemed "medicly necessary" as commonly as you may think. Personally, I think people should be forced to see the proceedure so they can see the inhumanity of it on a baby in the process of birth. I also think that the media should be playing re=runs of the planes hitting the twin towers to keep the public a little more aware of why we're at war with terrorists. How many of you have eaten steak but have never actually seen a cow killed then butchered? I'd say doggone few. It's easier to keep something in the philisophical mode to rationalize a decision. If you saw the reality of the proceedure, the decision to condone partial birth abortion would be indefensible. It's an ugly thing to honestly deal with personally. Picture yourself there, then tell me it isn't.
Excellent question.

It is totally ridiculous that a bunch of old farts, who know nothing about medical procedures and the risks they carry, think they have the right to decide what will happen to any woman in this country. A woman owns her own body. Not the husband, not her parents, and definitely not the government. They are imposing their own moral judgments on every woman in the US, robbing their rights of deciding what should happen to their own body, and that's wrong. A decision like that should be made by the doctor, according to individual cases. They are playing doctors and this will cost innocent lives.

As a libertarian, I believe no government has the right to interfere in the personal affairs of any of it's citizens. If it doesn't hurt others, it's OK. The radical notion of banning abortion comes from religious zealots who can't even interpret their own scriptures correctly.
