Don't house the bettas together, he will chase her and beat her until stress kills her. Be sure to get a filter for the tank too, that's very important. Any small peaceful fish will be fine with your new betta. Things like small tetras or live bearers would be good in your tank. Grab a heater too, that's important for tropical fish.

You'll have to have a 'smaller tank' to put the male beta in most of the time ... they are called Siamese Fighting Fish for the reason that they will 'fight' with ANY OTHER BETA, including the females if it's not 'breeding time' ... and most people have several females and one male, since a male beta can 'fertilize' many females, and the females NEVER FIGHT ... they are put into a 'smaller tank' with the male until they've been fertilized, then 'removed' as soon as that is done ... and the fish may BOTH eat the 'snails' in those plants ... you'd be much better off getting some 'easier fish' to grow ... and you'll need a 'heater' and a good 'filter pump' and possibly a 'light and cover' ... and you'll also need 'rocks' for the bottom of the tank, and the proper food for the type of fish you'll need, and a 'net' to catch and move them safely, and A GOOD BOOK about the fish you want, which you should READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR FISH!

Bad idea, male and female bettas cannot be kept togather in a small tank or they will kill each other. The only practical way of keeping male bettas with other bettas is in a huge tank with tons of hiding.
I hope this is not the tank in your other thread. If so then adding more fish is a terrible idea, your tank already has way too many fish.

the only thing with the snail infested plants is once you have them it is nearly impossible to get rid of them..id honestly go with tropical freshwater fish..bettas dont need the filter and air set up..they breathe the air we do by swimming up to the top.yet the snails do...also if you get bettas you are very very limited as to what else you can get since they are fighting fish..if you do get tropical fish you need a heater..and one more thing whatever you get..know that for every inch of the max. size of the fish should have a gal. of water.....such as if the max. size of the fish is 6 in. it should have at least a 6 gal. tank....also id let your water set for 24 running before you get the fish

You cannot have a male and female Betta in the same tank for a very long time and males are very territorial so choose your fish wisely or you might find them all dead. 10 gallons would seem like a lot but just for caution's sake.

I would caution you against getting snail infested plants... the snails reproduce ridiculously quickly... i started with like 8 in my 55 gal... and now I have 100's only weeks later... Its ok, because i have a green puffer who will eat them in a seperate tank... but i would really caution you about getting any small fast producing snails

are you going to get gravel and shelters for the fish? the do "lay eggs" at the surface of the water, but they also need shelter, like inverted clay flower pots, plastic plants, things like that to offer them a hiding place when they feel the need to scurry out of site. do a google search, and just type in beta and you'll get a slew of links for experts on fish care. good luck to you!!

bettas eat eachother... one thing they like is peace lilly roots. Just stick a peace lilly in the tank so that the leaves are above water. They eat the stuff on the roots. I had a snail in with the peace lillies that climbed up the leaves and got lost in the house somewhere...
