To be honest, i need a lot of help with drawing battle scenes. I am looking to gather a list for myself involving really good movies, books and novels with good battle scenes to improve my drawing skills.

Have any good references for a battle drawing newbie like me?

Battles are battles...the only difference is in the armor/uniforms and weapons used.

War movies are abundant...if you are thinking in terms of sword play...Braveheart, Last Samari, Lord of the Rings Trilogy...

Do a google search for the movies you need in the time periods you want....such as Civil War, WWII, etc....

it depends on what type of battle scenes you wanted to draw. is it the a la trojan war or world war II scene? i can suggest some drawing of gustave dore for swordman and horses; you can also check this website: bpib.com/ for reference. as for the world war II kind of battle scene, you can refer to historical books with photographs.

The classical way to learn is to copy masterworks. You don't say what period battle scenes you want to use for reference. Greek and Roman statuary will give you good male anatomy, 19th century European paintings will give you good horse anatomy, and so on.
