Browse some of the thousands of websites that cover every kind of collectible you can think of. Your library has books on antiques and collectibles. Go to antique/collectors' fairs where the stall holders will be happy to talk with you about your collection. You'll gain a little more insight into the items - which ones are more rare, valuable or desirable, etc. If you intend to part with them, don't be tempted to sell them until you have a better idea of their true value.

A few years ago I bought an old patchwork pillow and did some research, and found out it was made of cigarette silks. Mine were actually flannels, so you'd have to show yours to a fabric expert to be absolutely sure, or do testing. Here's a site with testing instructions - I have never dared to do it though! http://www.fabrics.net/fabricsr.asp

People redeemed coupons from their cigarette packs. They made them in pretty designs and also souvenirs for colleges. There are always some for sale on Ebay if you want to get an idea of value. Here's some sites about quilting with them
