If I was teased and bullied to the point of causing a mental illness do I have a right to sue? The teasing and mental abuse caused irrepairable damage to my personal and profession life.

If I can't sue then there is the answer to our societies ills. The victim's of mental abuse end up being the accusers and that is unfortunate. Who is the victim here? Society is *** backwards.

"I'm sorry you were 'bullied and teased' but that CAN NOT CAUSE MENTAL ILLNESS!"
Ever hear of post-trumatic syndrome?

No. You can't.
At the time of the bullying, if it were bad enough to cause you such distress - you should have brought charges of assault. You cannot sue after the fact in a civil court (and win) or bring criminal charges. You have the right at any time to distance yourself from the situation to save your own sanity.
As for the gunman.. Let him sue. :P

I was bullied and teased for my whole school life, and as a consequence I believe I have certain issues with people in general. I don't believe I'm mentally ill, but maybe just cautious, but I do believe that Columbine and the Virgina Tech shooters where the victims of bullying and thats the underlying cause of there violent outbursts. If you can sue people for that I look to make alot of money.

I'm sorry you were 'bullied and teased' but that CAN NOT CAUSE MENTAL ILLNESS! YOU are the person who is 'responsible' for the condition of your personal and professional life ... and no, you can't 'sue' for damages!
Bullying and teasing may be a 'criminal violation' under some circumstances, but you must be willing to file a police report and say 'everything' about the person(s) you are accusing of this crime, and you must let the POLICE and the DISTRICT ATTORNEY decide whether to pursue this case or not. IF a person is 'found guilty' of violating a law, then you may be able to 'sue them for damages' ... but you can not 'sue anyone' unless someone has 'died by murder' and have the 'civil court' render a 'different punishment' on someone who was found 'not guilty' of a crime in a court of law.

Depending on who you want to sue, if your at work, you have to report it to your boss and if they dont fire or have a lil talk with the person then you could sue them, if your in school and you report them to an authority and nothing is done, then you can sue the school. However if its just someone who is showing up at your house/job/where you go then i believe you have all the right to sue.All i can recommend is you get a good lawyer cause best bet is they are too. There gonna pull the old line of "they were just joking with you" and try pulling up your history trying to pass it off as thats your reason for "illness". Good luck.

Irreparable damage? I'm sure.
Yes, you have the right to sue.
But, can you PROVE they did this?
Can you PROVE the mental illness was caused by this? (You can't, we still don't know exactly what causes many things).
AND, they probably have the right to counter-sue. PLUS, there's this new thing out in certain courts, if you LOSE, YOU pay THEIR court fees.

its not a right to sue, its what this person did to you and, are they responsible, if they are, you now have a right to be compensated for medical charges and loss of potential and or projected income

If we do that to our children we can go to jail for child abuse. If we do it to our parents we can go to jail for elder abuse. So I dont see why you couldnt.
