Sometimes it helps to think of really simple fractions in order to figure out the hard ones. For example: what fraction of 2 is 1?
In that kind of question always take the second number and divide by the first - so you have 1/2.
Now in your case you get 45/57
Of course a math teacher is going to want you to reduce this to lowest terms, so you have to divide both the top and bottom by anything and everything that will divide into both of them. In this case divide both by 3 and get 15/19.

Anytime you see a fraction OF another number, that means it was multiplied by it. So we have the question: .6 times what = 42?
If we divide 42 by .6 then whatever that number is would have to be equal to 42 if we were to multiply .6 by it.
42/.6 = 70 and 70x .6 = 42

This last one is just like the first only asked in a different way.
It could be read as: what fraction of 280 is 70?
Actually this is easier than the other since it asks for a decimal and we can just divide and not worry about the reducing of the fraction.
So - take the second number and divide by the first.
70/280 grab your calculator (or pencil and paper) and divide that sucker out.

Good luck.

1. Divide 57 by 45 and you will get 1 4/15

2. For this one, multiply 42 by 0.6 to get 25.2 (think of it as 60% (.6 is the same as 60%) of 42)

3. divide 70 by 280 to get .25 (70 is one quarter of 280)

Good luck with the rest of the homework =]

1. 45/57 reduce by 3 = 15/19
2. 0.6 * X = 42 Divide each side by 0.6, you get X = 42/.6 = 70.
3. 70 = X * 280 Divide each side by 280, you get X = 70/280 = 1/4 = 0.25
