The idea of democracy in Athens was selecting group leaders based on majority opinion.It was selecting the best people/good people to govern.Modern democracy started from Mr.Abraham Licon.This is multy party democracy,peole selecting the best "party".The roman democracy was different from the 21st Century democracy

There is a book called Persian Fire by Tom Holland, in it there is an excellent chapter on the history of politics in Greece: I would recommend reading it if you are doing an essay on the subject.
