Prime factorization of 156:

Keep dividing by prime numbers until all you have left are prime numbers. Start looking for the smallest numbers possible. If helps if you can remember the first several prime numbers. 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23...

Since 156 is even, we start with 2. 156 / 2 = 78

78 is also even, so divide by 2 again. 78 / 2 = 39

39 is divisible by 3. 39 / 3 = 13.

13 is a prime number, so we're done.

2 x 2 x 3 x 13 = 156
