A large hungry Cat and a large chunk of Cheezee....
The best solution first is to block all possible entrances into your house and then bait the trap with nay kind of aromatic food...peanut butter, cheese, sweets work well also.
Seriously consider a cat they not only will hunt the rats , but the rats are very smart and they know if a cat lives in the house and will avoid it.
Our neighborhood has recently developed a rrat problem due to some old structures being torn down. All of the neighbors without a cat have a problem. We don't...but we have a very happy cat:)

Oh, my god! Move! Get the heck out of there!
What if you catch a disease from them? Then what?
If you can't move then buy as many of those glue rat traps as you can. Also, get the best exterminator that your money can buy. Whatever you decide though make it quick, because those filthy things breed fast and they like to invite their relatives over.
Sure hope that you are single. Good riddance!

find where they hang out, put trap there. rats are very poor sighted (3 blind mice) they tend to follow the same trail next to the wall. put trap there. If real big ones, use rat bait.

They also like peanut butter and crackers, but they will really eat just about anything. Honey nut cheerios might work well. Also, I recommend that you invest in some ultrasonic pest repellers, they really do work quite well. They also work great for spider, which most spays will only kill on contact.
