Foul weather gear is imperative! Good deck shoes. Several pairs of shorts and tee shirts. Use hats too. Just sailed from St. Thomas USVI to Cape Fear, NC 1650 nm. Trip of a lifetime!!!
Have tons of fun...be careful. Hard to get to a hospital out there. Keep 2 people on watch at all times. Ships will not see you, even at night with your masthead shining your sheet!!!

good foul weather gear is essential.....even if its not raining its cold.even here in the tropics.at night and worse the further north you go.....a lightweight sweater / heavy shirt would be good too....at least two pair of deck shoes......whatever you bring will get wet and wet with salt water never really dries so be prepared for damp clothing unless you get a rain squall where you can throw all the damp stuff in the cockpit and get a fresh water rinse..a lifesaver on passage!
a really no foolin around harness and safety tether that you wear every time on deck alone is not an option!
