It's pretty certain that information is not pleasant, but the reaction depends on many things: nature of information, objectivity of the listener, relations between those two persons (if my close friend criticise me on something I will think about that, but if total stranger tells me the same thing I would get angry)...

Well that's pretty true and funny too. I always think of it as talking down and my automatic defenses go up when someone says that. Usually I dismiss what they say out of hand because it is a type of manipulation.

Yeah - it's like when someone says "No offense but..." and then goes on to say something offensive. Or "I'm not being rude but.." If they really don't want to be offensive or rude or if they suspect you might mind them telling you something then why don't they just shut the F**k up? I hate that passive/aggressive bullsh1T...

O! My heart starts to beat faster and I am almost ready for a fight (or a heart attack) when I hear something like this: or "don't take it personally, but..." or "don't take me wrong...", O! I will always take it just right the way they wanted! Hate it!

yep it will most certainly be something u dont want to hear. why would they start the conversaation with that if they knew you would want to hear it.
personally i never use that line because its stupid. i mean if it is not something that they are going to want to here then of course they are going to mind you telling them even if it for there own good.

Most likely. It's the same as hearing "we need to talk." It's like foreshadowing.
