When haven't people in general been cruel to one another? That's a better question, don't you agree? The answer is - never, unfortunately.

Its not just Americans although in modern times they do seem to be more aggressive than anyone else in today's world but way back in history there probably is not one country which has not been dominated by another and caused havoc, mayhem, a lot of rape and pillage and a reduction in the population: Spain and South America / SE Asia, Britain ~ many places, Scandinavian countries ruled England as did a small guy called Norman from France, the Japanese and pretty much all of East Asia .... the Germans (Hitler times) and most of Europe, Hannibal and the Romans the list goes on. The problem these days is that America is trying (seemingly to anyone outside USA but its a perception and may not be the actual) to punish (not only by fighting) people who do not agree with them or want to be dominated politically by them and of course its all too visible via the TV.

What makes you think they were cruel to other people ?
Just because they exterminated the Native American Indians and/or beat them onto reservations, broke numerous treatys whenever it pleased them and then killed more of them.
They aren't even American Citizens.
Cruel ? how can you say that ?

Because we don't take time to understand a culture before we try to bring them a so called better life. That's why there are over 650,000 Iraqi dead. Who knows how many Native Americans.

in the 1800s, only white Protestants of Anglo-Saxon background counted. later, other white people were allowed into the club, eventually even Catholics.
non-white people did not count in their views.

Freedom and Liberty for all is a joke in this country. We had slavery, women couldnt vote and gays are now treated as subhumans. Have we ever really been free?

I am reminded of the saying "Do as I say, not as I do."
Previous generations are not too bright.
Hopefully the following generations can take head from the previous generation and try to be better.
I can only hope to be better than my parents.
