2000 NRA Convention:

"As we set out this year to defeat the divisive forces that would take our freedom away, I want to [repeat] for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed, and especially for you Mr. Gore: (Heston holds a musket high in the air)

"From my cold dead hands."

LETTER TO THE NY TIMES
Printed May 12, 1998
...The Founders' intent in framing the Second Amendment is perfectly clear and undeniable. Thomas Jefferson wrote, "No man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." Some anti-gun elitists declare this notion outdated. However, many constitutional scholars from this country's most prestigious universities agree that the Founders' intent is clear and irreversible: To "keep and bear arms" is a right for all law-abiding citizens...

I have always wondered how many people who were killed by handguns in a given year were murdered or accidentally killed by legal handguns and how many were murdered or accidentally killed by illegal handguns. I remember years ago a woman was all over TV telling her sad story about her young son who was killed at a neighbor's house when the kids were playing with the father's handgun.

It was only at the end of the hour long story that we learned that the father was a policeman. So even if the proposed handgun ban was made law her son would still have been killed because the neighbor still would have had a handgun. The story was presented and even featured Sarah Brady and was loaded with anti gun propaganda, it really made me wonder about one thing.

If private citizens (or civilians if you would rather) have legally possessed handguns that are killing so many people why was it necessary to concoct this story to prove a point? It should not have been difficult to produce many, many grieving mothers to tell their stories.

In my considerable recollections I can only remember news accounts about children or others being injured or killed by handguns carelessly left lying about by people who did not legally posses them such as drug dealers.

I must assume that the general public is being deliberately misled by people who know they are misinforming the public. This being the case, one should take the next step and ask why? What is the real agenda of the anti-gun people?

To the poster above. The NRA was required by law to hold the voting meeting in Denver. That event was planned years in advance and under laws that govern nonprofits the NRA could only cancel the event if it gave all voting members 10 days notice. This was impossible. Charton Heston was a man of character. He was one of the good guys. Your lack of respect for him shows you are not a person of good character.

There are 32 sets of cold dead hands in Virginia because of gun control. The students were prohibited by the school from carrying their properly licensed firearms at school. The school had a "Gun Free Zone".

So much for gun control! Gun control made victims of those students. If only one of them had been armed, how many lives could have been saved?

Yes. Now I know how he got everyone to cross the red sea: thirty-odd six?
Regulating handguns has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment.
I hate Charlton Heston! He's getting paid millions to advocate nra bulls--it!

Statistics support that almost ALLLLL murders are commited by someone you know, not some thug trying to take your liberty or life.

There is only one reason a government would want to disarm its citizens: dependence. Didn't we already fight that war? For Independence?

The Supreme Court disagrees with Heston's interpretation of the second amendment. That makes the comment ridiculous.

Well then...from "YOUR COLD DEAD HANDS" shall they pry your gun away to use to shoot another innocent human being.
NOT MINE!!
Some people(/idiots) should NOT bear arms. Hence the governments' involvement in gun laws.
