The Alamo was/is a mission of the Roman Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. However, what made it famous was a group of Texas took control of it and fought a major battle against the Mexican army under Gen. Santa Ana, and all of the defenders of the mission were killed, including Travis, Bowie and Davie Crockett.
