you divide the number on top by the number on the bottom.
ex.
29/5
29/5=5 with 4 left over
you write the left over as a fraction using your original denominator.
5 and 4/5.
you can write it as a mixed number if it goes in equally.
21/3
21/3=7 thus your answer is 7.
good luck!

Converting a improper fraction to a mixed number

19 / 5 is a improper fraction

Divide 5 into 19 = 3

Multiply

3 x 5 = 15

Subtract

19 - 15 = 4

19 / 5 = 3 4/5

3 4/5 . . . .is the mixed number

will use the improper fraction 9/2 to help with this.
to turn it to a mix number we dived the top number 9 divide by the buttom number 2 . That leaves me with 8 remander 1. Next you take the remainder and you put it over the the number you divide by which in this cause would be to, so now we have the mixed number 4 and 1/2. to turn a fraction into a whoe number you time the number by the number that you divide by. in tthis cause we would time 9/2 by to to get a whole number of nine. in algrebra if you used this what you do to one term of number you have to do to all the other number to keep everything balanced. so if you have the equation 5= 3x + 9/2 iyou would change it to 6x +9 = 10. i hope this helps

Find out how many times the denominator goes into (divides into) the numerator evenly. Then what is left would be the fraction.
For example: 13/2
2 goes into 13 6 times evenly because 2x6=12. 13-12=1, so the mixed number is 6 1/2. If there is nothing left over, the answer is a whole number.

see how many times the denominator can go into the numerator, and however many extra is left, make it into a fraction by putting that number on top of the original denominator. (then you could simplify it if you can.) i know it seems complicated, so here's an example:

15/6

6 goes into 15 twice and there are 3 left over, so it's.......

2 3/6

since you could simplify 3/6, it would be

2 1/2

divide the top number by bottom number...
say 24/3 24 divided by 3 is 8, so the answer is 8

also say 28/3 28 divided by 3 is 9 and u have one third left, so it's 9 and 1/3
