It depends on the laptop vendor. For instance, IBM ThinkPads don't come with an install CD/DVD. The software is located on a hidden partition on the Hard Drive. When a user wants to reinstall the original software, or perhaps format and revert the computer to it's original state, the user would enter a menu right as the computer boots (by pressing the Blue IBM Key in this case) to access this hidden partition and perform the reinstallation.

If it didn't come with a reinstall disk then it should have come with a reinstall partition or a way to make yourself a reinstall disk.
I fit didn't come with any of these it's not meeting Microsoft's requirements, so take it back and demand your money back. It's not a properly sold computer.

You need to make your own back-up/Recovery copy. You will need at least 2 DVD or alot of CD's. If it's like Windows XP it is under Pc security and backup under your start menu.

well u should be able to contact where u bought it from or check the microsoft web site and if non of those work call microsoft and they will help u.
