Hm im guessing you both have them in a bowl which is a bad idea.
You will need to seperate them, because once they mate the male will preceed in killing the female and the babies. You will need to change 50 percent of their water every 4 days and feed the male 1 large pellet every 2 days and the female 2 small pellets once every 3 days

Don't keep them together.
Change 25% of their water once a week.
Feed them once a day the amount they can finish in 5mins (individually). If there is any uneaten food, remove it as it takes up oxygen while it rots.
Provide some hiding spaces, they like to hide when they wanna rest.
Always de-chlorinate the new water.
Visit www.bettatalk.com for more info.
Goodluck to you and your new friend :D

make sure that the temperature in the water is always the same when you clean at the bowl. say like the dirty water you poored down the sink was room temperature and the new, clean water you put in the bowl was very cold; that is not what you want to do. if you drastically change the temperature in their water they can die from shock

DON'T KEEP THEM TOGETHER IF THEY ARE BOTH MALES. that's what most new people do and in the end one get hurt, sick, or died. feed them blood worms as treats. they like it. they keeping them in a container that hold one gallon of water or more. if one is a female it's OK. males and female get along.

change their water once or twice a month, feed them only till they stop eating, remove remaining food. Use a water conditioner. also, their water smells REALLY bad.
MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THEIR OWN TANKS/BOWLS
