It's not. And right now its not worth your pocket, to upgrade your computer to vista. There are still some capability issues, certain programs not working, and devices such as printers and routers not playing nice. Before you even decide to buy it you should go to the Microsoft web site and run the vista adviser to make sure your computer can be upgraded.

I'd like you to think about why you want to switch to Vista.
Because it's new?
Because it's pretty?
Because it's more secure?

Vista is quite a change in some ways from XP... Do a Google search for "Vista problem" - not a lot of existing software works completely with it (right now). There are even less drivers...

If you are still looking for something new - download an .iso of Kubuntu, use a program like imgburn to burn it to disk (XP can't do .iso files by itself) and reboot your computer with the now burned disk in it's CD / DVD drive.

This loads the whole Kubuntu operating system into your computer's RAM (not touching your hard drive). Try it out for a while. A couple days later try it again.

It's free in both senses of the word - free of cost and free of obligation. Lots of programs are built in... and there are thousands of people on the net willing to help you figure out anything that comes up.

If you're into the "extreme pretty" thing check out videos of "Beryl" on YouTube. It makes Vista look old and dated.

I'd give you links, but Google is so easy to use it's kind of silly.
