Don't get me wrong, I am glad I know what my kids are up to, but I always have to ask to have my kids go to someone elses house. Its like 20x to my house, 1 x to theirs. Kids eat a lot too! Should I be bitter (LOL.) Mother of 3 (often mother of 6 on any give day.)

You know, as a Long Term Single Parent, I often wondered the same thing -- I was a Single Parent Mother of two -- but there was often 5, 6, 8 or more EATING out of my fridge, using my sports equipment, and enjoying MY HOME most of the time!

The sad realization was that these 'kids' (and often, their younger siblings) were from homes where the parents did not care or know where their children were ... and it meant that this Single Parent (who did work hard for her income) was the one to whom the children came for a Hot meal (because their parents would NOT feed them), or a sympathetic ear, or even some help with homework .. much less a safe house to be at (at various times).

I know that is what happened -- and even sadder ... a lot of them were from two parent households where 1 parent would stay home (or not work), did drugs/abused alcohol, or some other bad things that made those homes unlivable to the the point where their children WANTED to be in a stable home (even if I was the ONLY Parent around!).

Your house was my house. Yeah sometimes you just want a break. Kids do eat alot. I tried to plan on what I could feed everyone. Home made snacks are cheaper also. Since the children were there anyway, I got them involved with the cooking. They love to cook. Jigglers are good and cheap if you use off brand jello. I would be happy to find recipes for you. Send me a MSG.

I LOVE it when everybody's kids end up at my house. I always wanted more kids but couldn't have them. Besides, it makes me feel good that other people trust me enough to let their kids hang out at my house. And it makes my kids feel good about themselves for people to tell them they have the "cool mom".

There's always that one "House" where all the kids hang out. The parents are cool and they usually have snacks there. There was one in my neighborhood. Looks like you are that one "House".

why not organize things with the other mothers
like a picnic or something at the park
which might lead the other mothers to do something
as well
at least you would get to meet them
and see how they are with kids.

Your cookies taste better, your tv is bigger, your answers to their homework questions are actually correct, and you don't hit them (very much.)
