WHAT???????
THE reason America has the HIGHEST rates of gun killings in the world is because of the availability. PURE, SIMPLE, LOGIC.

As long as all had safety, proficiency training and passed pertinent responsibility tests and checks. I don't think any one would disagree. Those who would do not know firearms, is an optimist and not very worldly. I t would defeat the purpose if those so authorize do not "concealed carry."
For those of you who think a person with chow's? problem is going to worry about gun laws? Isn't the university or at least the hall where all this happened supposed to be gun free? You have to live in the real world , think that way and act that way.

You seem to think we wouldn't just get more kooks with guns instead of Marshal Dillon. Can't you see going to class with a gun on your hip? What about the marginal character next door, gonna arm him too?
So a quad filled with gun toting students sees a man shooting and they all take out their Glocks and......well, seven hit him, and 100 hit the other 200 on the other side of the guy.
and two shoot themselves in the foot.
Now that's what I call clear thinking.

No - sadly, I think most of us lack the judgement needed to know when and whom to shoot. Even highly trained police officers mess up and kill someone brandishing a beer can or wallet or toy pistol.
Try instead to focus on the fact that this guy came up to the mental health system (or lack of a system) and no one did anything although he was found to be a danger to himself and others.

I believe the students were really terrified to the point that not one specially a male student, could not have tackle the shooter while he was in the process of reloading his magazines. I suppose teens are just young people who in other circumstances believe that they are not expendable. No lesson learned from the 911 plane which crashed in Pennsylvania only because of its heroic passengers.

Right, that's just what you need: more guns. What should be asked is why this person can walk into a gun shop and purchase a lethal weapon with no controls whatsoever. For crying out loud, if you need serious medication, you need to see a doctor first to get it...why should buying a gun be such an easy transaction? Stupid if you ask me. Time for some kind of profiling before people can get these types of weapons. It just makes sense.

absolutely. Gun control is possibly the dumbest idea ever because: If one imposed a law banning guns, the only people who would stop having guns are those who follow laws (the good, law abiding citizens). Criminals (people who don't obey laws) will not listen to the law banning guns. So basically, you take away all the weapons from the good people who you wouldn't mind having weapons, but you don't take any weapons away from a criminal. So all you're doing is helping the criminal, by giving him assurance that any person he wants to mug/rob/rape will be defenseless.

You have a point.
Firearms are illegal at VT. The killer was able to walk in there with no fear of retribution because he knew full well his victims were incapable of defending themselves.
A man on a news show last night said it is pure insanity to expect the government to protect you by simply passing a law. Citizens must be empowered to protect themselves.

I completely agree. An armed society is a polite society.
While the anti-gun nuts will use this as why we should ban guns, this situation can just as easily be used to explain why there should be no gun control laws.

It has happened at other schools; where students obtained firearms from their cars and stopped an assailant. The term "More Guns Less Crime" is real; its also a good book with real facts that anti gun advocates refuse to accept.

Maybe, or even more might have been slaughtered in the resulting hail of gunfire.
What might have helped is if there are plainclothed security forces about, ready at all times.
