The speculation is the trumpets hit the resonant frequency of the walls and made them shatter.

The latest theory on the matter, is an Earthquake that has created very strong low frequency waves before shatering the surface of the Earth thus destroying the wall of Jericho.
New studies indicates that they were some "tsunami" recorded in the region during the same period (indicated by sediment deposits on higher levels), which could indicate that the wall of Jericho did indeed collaspe like mentionned in the Bible...

There is no credible explanation other than "God did it." That's the definition of a miracle. The theories of vibrations from the marching, resonance from the trumpets, earthquake/tsunami damage, and so on, would not explain so much damage to so much of a major city wall as to allow an invading army immediate entrance. We know how walls were built in that day. The construction is not at risk of major damage from these sources.
