Wasn't it the hammer and sickle of communism?

Most communist leaders went under that banner, Karl Mark, Lenin, Trotsky... Some modifyed it but I think that Stalin left it the same.

And yes, other people are saying that the red star was Stalin's symbol.
The Swastika, as used by Hitler was the sign of Hitler's political party, and the Hammer and Sickle would be the equivilent.
But the red star was more of a personal symbol, for just Stalin, rather than his party.

He was educated at an Orthodox seminary school. As a member of the Bolshevik Party he would have been, like all the other leading lights of the Party, an atheist. After the Revolution an Atheist League was established which actively sought to eradicate religious belief and symbols destroying many buildings and works of art. However, under Stalin. the State and the Church reached an agreement and, with the Nazi invasion, the Church fully backed the Great Patriotic War effort. While the Communist Party was officially atheist Stalin himself appears not to have been on a personal level. Stalin's personal bodyguard claimed that as he got older he regularly visited one of the chapels in the Kremlin to pray during and after WW2.
