I would suggest removing as many damaged leaves as possible including the stems. They will begin to grow new leaves as soon as they settles into your tank.

If the conditions are right there is no reason why it should not grow. As to the quality of blooms, if any, you would have to wait and watch. I once had a cut rose root and grow - I got it in a bouquet and stuck the stem in a pot as support for another small plant ! However even though it grew about 2 feet, it died of 'die back' thereafter. Mind you, roses dont grow that well here in Mumbai to start with, neither am I a rose grower, I much prefer other plants, so just because my rooted cutting died does not mean anything. Do post your results, it would be interesting to know.

If it is a eyesore, i would suggest pruning it out. I do not know about the plant regrowing it's leaves because i do not know what kind of plant it is. But most plants like swords cannot regrow their leaves and must be pruned. Eventually after a few weeks though, there should be new leaves branching out from the base. It takes a few weeks for new plants to get use to their environment, they are just like fish. When they are adjusted, you will definately tell just by the intense growth. Hope this helps.

Usually plants gets ripped during their transportation from the farm they were harvested from all the way to you.

For most stem plants i would encourage you to stripe away the spoilt leaves, and cut away the stem about 2" to 3" below the last leave. Then shaft the stem into the gravel. Roots will grow from the stem underneath the gravel and new leaves should continue to grow from the crown and maybe it'll sprout side shoots. But given good lighting, CO2 and sufficient nutrients (best result if there is base fert for stem plants) it wouldn't be long before you need to start trimming it :)
