Nothing in my question implies I am blaming the people who sold him the guns. They did nothing wrong.

Well the answer is obviously no. I guess if he was referred to a counselor and people had suspiciouns about him. someone should have had him evaluated. But i guess its easy to see that now.

And im a conservative. But people with mental instablities arent supposed to have guns for good reason. its identifying who is the problem.

It was his right, though I don't think resident aliens should have that right. The school had a rule that no students could have fire arms on campus. So, all of the law abiding students didn't have any way to protect themselves. Political correctness killed these students and staff, because the school wouldn't take any action on the many signs that he was dangerous, If I was a parent I'd have a lawsuit going against the school for negligence. I don't advocate taking away guns from law abiding citizens. There are lots of crazies out there, driving around in cars, yet nothing is done to keep them off the roads. Mentally ill is the word here.

Your premise is pretend. that's the 2d modification that protects the right of the persons to possess firearms. also Seung Hui Cho ought to have offered the guns illegally if he had to. Gun guidelines do not have any result on criminals. in straightforward words regulation abiding human beings obey gun guidelines. Criminals ignore about gun guidelines and maximum different guidelines. If some regulation abiding human beings were wearing guns they could have stopped Seung Hui Cho.

He was well within the laws of the US and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Looking at it 20/20 hindsight of course it was a bad idea. How was the gun dealer to know? If everything checked out okay he had no need to suspect anything.

The whole thing is just one big tragedy. It is too late for the woulda, coulda, shoulda.

no, whether legally or illegally. guns should only be used by authorities, like the police, etc.

come to think of it..anybody who has guns probably bought them to kill (whether it be animals...or for self defense)..the main purpose would always be to kill.

if the person bought it for the sake of using it only in the shooting ranges, then the government should just make a rule that people could only rent (never buy) guns in the shooting ranges and use them only there.

Of course not. Look what he ended up using them for. But how are gun dealers supposed to differentiate between sane people and people who intend to kill other people? Quite the task. I do think that if you live on a college campus you should not be allowed to bring in fire arms, but how are they to check for such things? Metal detectors?

What happened is sad. But at the same time, you can't deny selling a person alcohol (assuming they're doing it legally) on the off chance that they might get behind the wheel and kill someone. You just can't use this type of logic.

Was it a good thing that he had free speech and individual liberties and so was not more closely scrutinized for his "mental" condition? As people were afraid of lawsuits for any action on singling him out?

I think mentally ill people should be red flagged when they try to buy a firearm just as felons are.
