He was born in Austria. He was an artist for awhile as a young man. But, although his work was not all that bad they told him he wasn't right for it. He had a series of strange relationships with women. He spent time in jail. Fought during WWI was considered brave. He may have had Jewish ancestors. He had a few mentally disabled relatives, one of which was put to death under the Nazis. He wrote Mien Kampf. He was a very affective public speaker. Was responsible for the deaths of between 6-8 million European Jews. He also invaded many countries including Poland, France, USSR, the Netherlands, Czechoslovakia. There is more. But, I'll let others answer.

........This is one concentration camp about .........15 miles from my home
http://www.mopows.com/overview1.htm
This is the story of how 15,000 men came suddenly to Missouri, taken from fighting a half a world away. They came as our enemy, but in many cases they left as friends, or at the least, with a more positive view of the United States. They worked here and lived here, and just as quickly, were gone again, in most cases leaving nothing more behind than memories with those who resided nearby or worked in the camps.
