Eat healthfully (whole grains, lean proteins, cut back on sugar, caffeine, and stop drinking and smoking); get exercise; listen to your body's cues (if you're tired, then sleep! forcing yourself to stay awake only makes you bitchy); take prenatal vitamins; get good health care throughout your pregnancy....

Even if you do everything right, sometimes the pregnancy just doesn't go according to plan, or something is wrong with the placenta or the baby. Just do everything you can; what will be, will be.

Take prenatals every day. Exercise moderately, every day. Eat what you want, when you want it - but don't forget to have a salad or some carrots or some fruit every day. Avoid stressfull people and situations. If you smoke and are in your first trimester - stop immediately, otherwise you will have to cut down gradually then eventually stop, as the stress from not smoking will put the baby into shock. Stay away from secondhand smoke as well. Get lots of sleep. Potatos and orange juice help with pregnancy brain! Don't take ANY medicines unless it's perscribed to you by your doctor, or unless it's plain old Tylenol for a headache. Urinate when you feel the urge, because not doing so can result in a bladder infection and can escalade into a kidney infection. Drink lots of water and juice every day. Try to avoid caffiene as much as possible. ((a little bit in a soda or something here n there is nothing to worry about)) Eat a small meal every 2-3 hours, because while you're pregnant, if you let yourself actually become HUNGRY, you get icky feeling and then nothing seems appetizing to you. Take naps during the day in your first trimester, as it helps you sleep better through the night. Try to avoid eating big meals and eating before you go to bed at night. Once you hit like 24 weeks, sleep on your side because the baby loses blood circulation if you lay on your back. If you're uncomfortable on your side, put a pillow on one side of you and have it prop you up somewhat to the side, but enough so that you're still lying on your back, and most importantly, ENJOY YOUR PREGNANCY!

You should work on being healthy before becoming pregnant! 4 months ahead of time you should stop all alcohol consumption and begin taking 1mg of folic acid daily. Folic acid helps cell development. (Initially, the pregnancy is a zygote, rapidly dividing cells. Folic acid will help in the development at this stage.)

As soon as you suspect you are pregnant, begin prenatal care. Go for regular visits. Also, buy a good book on the subject. 'What to Expect When You are Expecting' is an excellent resource. Also buy a journal. Jot down any questions that occur before or after prenatal visits. That way you won't forget what you wanted to ask the ob/gyn. Jot down the answers too!

Take your prenatal vitamins as prescribed. Do NOT take any other medication or herbs without discussing it with your ob/gyn.

Eat 3 nutritious meals per day and don't use cravings as an excuse for a poor diet or overeating.

Exercise regularly; but avoid overstraining.

Get plenty of sleep and avoid stressful situations.
Good luck.

Vitamins are not enough you need to be getting protein, whole grains, dairy products, and vegetables, EVERY SINGLE DAY! By enough, I mean you need to eat enough calories (2500 - 3000 for most pregnant women) and protein (80 - 100 grams), 7 - 9 servings of grains, and 5 vegetable servings per day (one could be a high vit. c fruit), and 3-4 good calcium sources too. Drink plenty of water also. Take your prenatal's everyday, and avoid fish thats high in mercury.

Eat well and stay in shape. But if something is going to go wrong with your baby...theres really nothing you can do unfortunetly! sometimes things just happen.

but the best way to safeguard your baby to make sure its as healthy as you can possibly help it be...then just make sure to stay active while your pregnant going for walks and doing something like yoga. make sure you stay healthy when you eat too....keeping a good diet will help a lot! and make sure your baby doesn't get TOO big!!!

dont eat tuna (it has high levels of mercury that have been linked to AUTISM)

you know that obvious, no medications before consulting a doctor, not even advil, no smiking, or drugs or alcohol.

mostly give in to your food cravings, thats your bodys way of telling you EXACTLY what you need, even if its fried chicken ;D

try ataying mobile too, go out an walk, breathe some fresh air

but most importantly check up with your doc to follow up of your baby

Well, you would have to wait until you're not pregnant anymore, then look at how to have a healthy baby. Talk to a good doctor.
