Did you know it was once my RIGHT to own slaves in this country...it was once my RIGHT to help enforce state-sanctioned bigotry, racial prejudice...and segregation. ALL sanctioned by federal, state and local laws...
It is now my RIGHT to terminate the life and child inside of me since:
1. I take NO responsibility for my actions
2. Abortion is a now a form of birth control
3. Society waters it down..."that's ok girl, we have buried 50 million "choices" since 1973, what's another"?

What a false perception that the law gives you the ability to do something...that it is morally the right choice?!

Are we confused as a society between what feels good, and what we can throw away for the sake of convienience?

Abortion is not morally wrong. End of story.

Meansnada: Shuddup. It happens to be a narcissistic hobby of mine, much like your hobby is lurking in gay bath houses dressed in bonnets and pantaloons. *spank*

There is so much more to it than that isn't there? There is so much more than that as well.
We live in a social order that permits one "to live and let live" a very good line/excuse to do what you want without repercussions.
I have to agree with you that the abortion issue is a means of legalized killings but in this world of falling morals people like you and I are outcasts. We may have had the right to own others as slaves. Thankfully we gave up those immoral rights, yet we have lost the right to be "right" in an immoral society.
We speak of values and codes of conduct that all must adhere to yet if all cannot follow the simple rules of the ten commandments then how can we ever expect the social order to live accordingly?
I have learned that it is not society that has to change but the individuals within society that have to change! I believe if the likes of you and I can change one mind for the better, and if the ones who have changed their minds could do the same for another then eventually millions upon millions will change society themselves.
It's a pipe dream.
As long as we humans have the freedom of will then we will do as we please. Not as we should. Having this freedom means we have the right to be wrong if freedom is to survive.
So those who would abort a child, slay another of a different colour, lie to gain for themselves, cheat on their loved ones for their pleasures???. They have a right to it. We cannot do anything about that. However they do not have the right to claim it is proper and correct just because society condones it.
As a whole we are not confused...just corrupt of heart.

I see your point and I agree; however, neither the Old Testament, the New Testament or the Bible condemned slavery. And remember, 'Las Casas' the Spanish Priest who protested slavery of the native Indians thought that enslaving blacks from Africa was a good thing.

This is a tough subject for me to have an absolute stance on. You see I myself would never have an abortion unless it would save my life, and I think it's horrible that some people consider abortion as their only birth control (didn't you have the CHOICE to not have sex in the first place?).

However I can't tell someone what to do and I certainly can't tell a girl as young as I am that she has to drop out of high school to take care of a baby that she isn't physically prepared to give birth to in the first place.

As a society, I would say we're definitly pretty messed up.

But, it seems kind of funny, because as backwards as society is, you take a very negative bashing towards abortion. The title of your question is, "The 'right' to own slaves...?" Except in actuality your question had nothing (objectively) to do with that subject. The way you connected it was in a negative way, so of course the reader will have to side with you, otherwise they would be in the wrong, and no one likes to be in the wrong.

Americans are complacent, that's they're problem. (Not all of them though).

Also, I would much rather have someone have an abortion for special cases (maybe rape, or something similar), or have an abortion instead of shoving a clotheshanger up to kill the baby (you may have heard stories). For however stupid the girl might be, if she's going to kill the baby, she might as well stay alive in the hopes she might not be as stupid as some point in her life.

what the hell are you talking about?
this is a lousy argument
you're trying to convince the only consistantly enslaved group in history...women...to give up something they're sure is an important reproductive right by arguing slavery and legality?
you're soooo missing the point
We could argue the same thing about how men use the law to control and abuse women
It still won't change the facts...Either a baby is a viable living legal person or it isn't.
The law now says it is. Now you want to argue that the law is wrong?
Bad argument and bad timing

The person who asked this "question" was obviously looking to push their views and religious beliefs on others. Am I wrong? The truth is... In America, YOU HAVE THE FREEDOM TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT! I constantly see people trying to tell others what to do and what is "MORALLY" right. Morals are your own opinion and I respect that! Trying to make people believe like YOU do is like trying to buy slaves! Americas differs from any other country because of its FREEDOM! If you do not like it, feel free to leave this great country. I didn't join the service to fight for a theocracy....

Sorry, but I had to say it.

It's still your "right" to own slaves if you are the CEO of a large corporation. Since you take no responsibility for your actions, take responsibility for your inaction in re: Columbine, the San Diego, CA schoolyard massacre and the more recent Virginia Tech. The necessity for abortion is because your country has no morals when it comes to sex. Society is eventually going to pay for what they haven't done; 'Bye 'bye Ms. American Pie....
Only moral thing left for me to do is to secede from the union and not pay taxes. Fortunately I have learned to hunt, fish and barter like a civilized Native American.

A sad way it has all turned out. Abortion can not realistically be a form of birthcontrol as the feteus was already developing. I am actually pro-life my self, yet there are medical reasons to have an abortion and those I am for. Killing is a choice, that is true and it is an evil choice; an evil choice that should have never been allowed, except for those special mediacal cases.
I don't think your ranting by the way.

Nobody uses abortion as a form of birth control and this forum is Women's Studies not ranting about anti abortion dogma. This is not the place to do this. Go incite your hate filled rhetoric elsewhere troll.

No, we're not confused about or by that.
What confuses me are the people who spend time ranting on sites like YA instead of getting out there and helping support the babies they"saved" from abortions.
Good luck
