Huh? It's common sense! If the water is even below 55F you can get hypothermia, and fast. Water conducts heat away from the body much more quickly than air does.

Hypothermia is when the human body gets extremely cold. Hyperthermia is just the opposite.

Because cold lowers body temperature. That is what hypothermia is, it is the lowering of body temperature below a level in which the body can function.
