My Fish Just Died Too :-( Sorry For Your Fish. It Is Just Harder For Your Fish to Get To the Food. You didn't Kill It, Don't Worry. The Older It gets, the slower and harder it can reach. I wouldn't Fill it to the top just to tell you though. Maybe 3/4 of the way. It needs area to swim to, But not that high. (Needs Oxygen)
EDIT- don't worry about it you probably didn't mean to. Well if you get another fish. Use Tap Water but there is this little red bottle with liquid inside. Ask for it were you get your fish. Its about 2 small drops. This way you can save money and your fish!

Goldfish in themselves are not long living fish. Filling the bowl to the top wouldn't kill it. But using water directly out of the faucet might have, you are suppose to let it sit before putting fish in and if you are changing it, you only take out about a third and replace it. Hey, everyone does things like this, don't be so hard on yourself, live and learn.

You should keep the water in your fish bowl low. The water level should be near the widest part of the bowl to optimize the surface area where Carbon Dioxide can be released into the atmosphere and Oxygen can be dissolved into the water.
Either this or it jumped out!

Yes, My fish died because i filled it all the way to the top and it did not have enough oxygen to breath. I killled a whole bunch of them. My husband warned me, but I didnt listen. I thought he was crazy when he told me they could die. And they were exotic fish too! I learned the hard way!

No. It could have died from: too much chlorine in the water, shock/stress, bacterial infection, parasitic infestation.
Goldfish can suck air from the surface of the water if there isn't enough in the water already.

Of course... he floated too high and the altitude got him.
He probably died because he's a goldfish and they only live for a week anyway.

Maybe you should have given it a glass of air. - Jokes aside, fish, whatever species need oxygen bubbles in the water in order to survive otherwise they will rise to the surface & struggle to "breath" and will eventually die.
