I have had fish before and they never ate and spit out their food before, only if the food was a little big.
but my betta even with tiny grains he eats them and then spits out particles of them

Bettas do that a lot. Who knows for sure why, but probably to soften it up a bit.

Bettas love to spit food out and eat it later. Sounds very normal to me. They are kind of goofy about that.

some do that because it makes the food softer and easier to eat. when it is hard it can hurt the fish when they swallowed it.

Perfectly normal. They love to do that. But don't ask me why, because i don't know. Maybe to soften it up and then they eat it later... I just don't know!! :)

My beta used to do that all the time...i know its mean, but it's probably cause they're not that smart. mine was pretty dumb LOL
