If there are 70,000 people and the ratio of female to male is 7:1, how many females and how many males are there?

1 female: 7 males means that 1/8 of the population is female and 7/8 of the population is male.

1/8 = x/70,000
8x = 70,000
x = 8757 females

7/8 = x/70,000
8x = 490,000
x = 61,250 males

There are 8 people in each group (1 male and 7 females). There are 8750 group of people. So, that means there are 8750 men and 61250 women.

70,000 divided by 8 ....(7+1=8)

8750 males
8750 * 7 = 61250 females (OR 70,00 - 8750= 61250)
