Bless your heart - I've been there and it really sucks. You are in a very scary place right now, but continue to have faith. Even when things are looking really grim. I had always worked, had a great job history and did not get one response after sending out over 200 resumes in 4 months. When I found the right job, I called, met with him the next morning, and he offered me the job at the interview. It is the best job I have ever had. It will happen like that if you remain persistant in your search. Go to job fairs - most of the jobs aren't geared for those of us who have been around for awhile, BUT the meetings and speakers they have there are worth their weight in gold. They hooked me up with an over 40s group for people over 40 looking for jobs. There was networking, emotional support, and a lot of job search resources in addition to an office with job search equipment i.e. copier, internet, fax, etc. I wish you luck - you'll be in my thoughts.

I am sorry that you are out of work. I will tell you that I attend college with a man that is 62. He is taking a CAD program a two year program and he absolutely loves it. He is retired. All the good jobs are going over seas. We could be here all day pointing the finger at the people responsible for that, but I don't have that kind of time. I hope you find something soon. All the best.

OK, so either you "pack it in", give up, lay down and die...or you pick yourself up and go. The days of long careers have been over for a while now. Gone forever. But you still can get something: why not start with one of those placement agencies? Some offer day contracts, some offer longer term - and, if you're lucky, you may even be hired by one of the companies the agency sends you to. There are possibilities out there. You have to be willing.

Employers do not care about their employees anymore. They do not care if someone stays or not. And if you have been there a while or have a lot of experience they do not want you because they have to pay you more than a kid just out of college. Companies are willing to settle with medicority when it comes to employees because they save money on pay and benefits. Its sad, wrong and a shame but unforunatelly true. Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time of it. I personally got tired of the rat race and went into business for myself. You can check out my site if you want. Its not for everyone but it will earn you money til you get another job. I wish you the best.
