Whatever happened to pagers and pager companies?

Rendered obsolete by cell phones and texting.

I looked into buying a pager a year ago, as I thought it would be cheaper than getting a cell phone. It really wasn't.

Cell phones are just as cheap and as common and can be used as pagers too. There really is no need to page someone when you can just call them.

They are still around. My company uses one for our on-call staff. They can't use cell phones because the coverage area is not 100%.
