ok.
so john drinks 1/2 of 3/4 = 1/2 * 3/4 = 3/8 of a quart of milk.
there are 4 quarts to a gallon, so he drinks 1/4 * 3/8 of a gallon which is 3/32 gallons of milk.

Firstly, work out how much is in a quart of milk in fluid ounces.
1 pint = 4 gills [0.568 litre]
1 quart = 2 pints [1.136 litre]

Then work out how much 3/4 of this amount is.
2 divided by 4 = 0.5 then multiply by 3 = 1.5 pints are left in the carton

Then work out how much 1/2 of that amount is ...... ?
1/2 of 1.5 = 0.75 of a pint
