Over 40,000 people die every year in the U.S. of gunshot wounds. Very few people hunt and Bubba doesn't need a bazooka to bag Bambi. No other major nation in the world has this problem. The notion that civilians should keep weapons to fight a rogue government is ludicrous, considering the more advanced weaponry the military has. Gun morons defending their "right" to keep automatic weapons in order to be successful against an equally armed invader or oppressor, are essentially saying that everyone has a right to keep a couple of nuclear weapons in their basement, to "defend" this nation from a rogue government. More like attempt to overthrow one they don't particularly like at the moment, is more closer to the truth. Gun nuts sound awfully like terrorists in that regard, don't they? . . . especially when you consider that THIRTEEN to FOURTEEN (!!! ) times more American civililians on American soil die EVERY year from gunwounds than the total 3000 or more U.S. soldiers who have died in six years of Bush's oil war.

That's 3000 dead Americans +

( and that's just the ones we know about ) EVERY SINGLE YEAR from gunshot wounds.

So, if only 3000 die in a war over 6 years, exactly WHAT do these gun morons think their guns are "protecting" us from? Certainly not a peaceful or truly decent way of life, that's for sure. Actually, war looks a lot SAFER than the NRA's vision of good old boy homegrown massacre and bloodshed. This mortality number is a FACT. It's not an "opinion". Also, the notion that registering guns or bullets will "lead" an invading army or rogue government to the gun owner is ludicrous, considering, again, modern technology, satellites and the trend toward gps chips in registered motor vehicles. Many people own guns because they are cowards and need a sense of "power". They also owns guns because they are lazy and apathetic and fail to be socially involved in their communities for the good of all and fail to maintain their communities prudently and effectively to the myopic, irresponsible point that there is shameful collapse and, in their lack of wisdom, they then resort to the more primitive social coping strategy of arming themselves in their failed communities.

There are MANY reasons to own a gun. 1. Hunting 2. Sport Shooting and 3. Personal Protection are probably the most common reasons.

A gun in the hands of a non-criminal is nothing for you to worry about. Frankly, without guns this country wouldn't even exist, think about that.

If you outlaw guns, ONLY the criminals will have them. All my guns combined have killed less people than Ted Kennedy's car!!!!

I own firearms for several reasons. I enjoy hunting. The meat I get is far healthier for me than anything you can buy at a grocery store, it's cheaper for me to get it, and I enjoy it. I also believe that I should have a right to defend my home, my property, and my family. If anyone comes on my property without proper justification, then I feel that I should have means available to me to remove them, and it they should become threatening, I feel that I should be able to remove them with any force including and up to deadly force. I also enjoy shooting my firearms. It's a fairly inexpensive form of entertainment. For what you pay to go watch a movie or concert, I can spend to shoot clays for a day or pluck targets around my families property. I also like the fact that it's an activity that my family and I can enjoy together. The last reason I'm going to give you is because it is my constitutional right guaranteed me by the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. "....the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." So try to outlaw firearms and you will be committing an unconstitutional and tyrannical act. I for one would rather die than to suffer under the heel of tyranny. Unfortunately the way things seem to be going in this country sometimes, it may indeed come down to tyranny.

I shouldn't scare you! I am a responsible gun owner who takes my right and freedom to own a firearm very seriously! The OWNERS should not scare you, those that obtain weapons illegally should however. And that is exactly what will happen if we abolish the right to bear arms. Do some research and you will find that in any given country (even those with the STRICTEST gun laws) criminals do and can get their hands on a firearm and will commit a crime. By allowing law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves, many crimes are in fact prevented. It is a very sad commentary on gun control when we have incidents like the massacre of all of those young and beautiful lives in Virginia, but one psychopath should not determine what is best for the majority. Please, do not allow me to frighten you. I keep my weapon under lock and key, it is not loaded and my children are educated PROPERLY as to the handling and the "mystery" of a gun. And if push came to shove, and your life was being threatened, I would protect you and God forbid, use deadly force to ensure your safety.

Why do people need to own cars, or houses, or anything else? Sorry, but your question is asked backwards, at least from an American/democratic viewpoint - you need to show why people SHOULDN'T have guns. The burden is on society to prove why it should be able to take away the natural rights of an individual to own property and engage in activities they find reasonable, useful, or pleasurable.

Imagine if one in every fifteen people carried a concealed weapon. Consider what the outcome of the Virginia Tech massacre could have been if just two of those students were carrying a firearm.

All crime would go down! If one in every fifteen people carried a fire arm, all criminals would think twice before committing a crime. Consider the rapist, or the thief, who knows that there is a one in fifteen chance that his/her victim is carrying a gun.

Look at the States with the lowest crime rates vs. percentage of gun ownership. “States with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crimes.” (John R. Lott Jr. - “More Guns Less Crime”) About 80 percent, or more, of my neighbors own at least one firearm. There has not been a robbery, or murder, or shooting, in my neighborhood for as long as I can remember. “When states passed these [Concealed Weapons Permit] laws, the number of multiple-victim shootings DECLINED by 84 percent. Deaths from these shootings plummeted on average by 90 percent and injuries by 82 percent.” (John R. Lott Jr. - “More Guns Less Crime”)

When reflecting on the Virginia Tech massacre I was suddenly very grateful to know that one of my close friends carries a concealed weapon.

That is why people need to own guns. It is a matter of being able to protect oneself in case of a crisis. It is for events like the Virginia Tech massacre that the second amendment was written. We as a people must be able to protect ourselves when something like that happens.

Because the Constitution of the United States say that we have the right to bare arms. Read it sometime. These are the fundamental rights of all citizens of the United States and are the basis on which we have become the most powerful nation in the world. If you want to be scared of something, be scared of the press. They are the ones giving these idiots air time and taking advantage of terrible situations. So the next guy with a death wish figures if he kills a whole bunch of people, he will be famous and finally get the attention that he probably never received growing up. Be scared of a cruel society who shuns those who are not cool or good looking. Be most scared of parents who dont care about their kids!!!

Alarms don't stop murderers and a person with a gun can easily shoot a dog. You have to level the playing field (pardon the analogy) Our police should not use less than lethal force, criminals don;t. You cannot count on the government to protect you at all times. You must take personal responsibility and protect yourself and your family.

Take your last sentence......gun owners scare criminals too....

If I want to own a gun it is my constitutional right to own one. If I want to hunt I can, If I want to go to the shooting range I can, If I want to have one in my house for protection I can. I don't need to make monthly payments for a system that every will ignore, nor do I need to walk it, get it shots, and feed it everyday.
