Yes, the Melting Pot IS too classy for a casual non date. It's a DATE spot....even listed on CitySearch as one. I've never been there (would looove to go tho) but my sister has cause that's where her bf took her for her birthday. Yia Yia's EuroCafe in Chesterfield would be another to avoid too. That's def. a date spot too...it was were I was taken for Valentine's Day one year. I would suggest somewhere more fun....like Dave & Busters over in Earth City. That's casual & there are games to play afterwards! =o) There's also a bar in the middle of the game area if you guys are 21+ but I don't know cause you didn't specify your ages.
If you want to look around at more casual but fun places, CitySearch is a good website to check out cause they have that "best of" thing going on.

If you want to give him the wrong signs, then take him to the Melting Pot...that's a very popular date place.
I suggest something a little more well-lit yet fun. Think Dave and Busters for a non-date birthday celebration.

I've been to The Melting Pot and the it's a pretty romantic place. The booths are very private and the lighting is low. If you do not want it to seem like a date, I suggest reconsidering your choice. Too bad too, because they have great food.
Maggiano's is a nice place (if you like Italian) or Houston's or maybe even Bahama Breeze.
Good luck!

I was actually going to suggest the Melting Pot :) I think that's a great idea! It is a pretty nice place, but it's his birthday so I think he deserves it! Have fun!

I like the Old Spaghetti Factory (off the river by the Arch). Also, if you wanted a really fun dessert idea - go to Ted Drew's Custard off the old Route 66. It's the best and it's a lot of fun on a great spring night!
Have fun and Happy b-day to your friend.

Melting Pot is definitely a date place; I concur with many others.
Here are a few nice spots that aren't so "date-ish":
Hacienda (Mexican)
Boathouse at Forest Park
McGurk's (Soulard, Irish)
Old Spaghetti Factory

I've yet to check it out, but I'd love too. I hear it's really good, and also a great place for a date....but very, very expensive! considering the price, I'd say it's not a casual, non-date type of place. maybe go with a group of friends to celebrate?

howdy! i examine each and every of the solutions and that i think of that a picnic could be suited. only make the picnic in some place the place not a lot of human beings circulate, a very tremendously place and consume your sandwiches or in spite of else you deliver. you may call it your individual place or your specific place. that could sound cheesy yet while she's the kinda woman that likes to circulate strolling, it is suited. i could choose to be taken on a picnic. and you will additionally %. her slightly boquet of vegetation that only advance on the line or on your backyard in case you have one. this is definitely amazing and considerate. if a majority of those issues take place, i think of that could desire to be so romantic.

go to somewhere like Red robin or Friendlys those too places are not overly romatic and sell pretty good food... they also are not overly over priced and sell anything from a good buger to chicken fingers and fries....
Have fun.. Happy Birthday to your friend!
