Seek out help from a domestic violence group in your area. I am sure that they would help you. Usually they have legal advocates that can help you with finding legal help.

We need a little more information.

Have you Filed for a Divorce? If so did he contest it. Or is he just telling you that he refuses.

You need to hire a decent attorney- Then file the divorce paperwork. In most states, he will be served with the divorce papers and then there is a time period in which to contest it. If he does not- then it will go to the court and the judge should sign it for you.

I don't think my ex ever signed our divorce papers
The judge did and that is what is important.

In this situation I don't think he can hold you back from a divorce if you have proof that he tried to kill you. I'm pretty sure that if you file for a divorce and he does not sign the papers it will still be finalized in 3 years if he wants it or not.
You should be able call a woman's abuse helpline and get an answer and even the assistance to help you.

You can still file for a divorce. Nowadays there are many types of divorces to cover just about every scenario people can come up with. The thing here is whether he will contest it( doesnt want one so he ll fight you). Contact your local legal aid association for free help, or hire a Paralegal in case you dont qualify for legal aid. The reason for the divorce is up to you but physical abuse or domestic violence are good ones to start with. Good luck

Call legal aid- and file for a divorce. It is very easy to divorce someone in prison, they are easy to serve, and cant cause you any suffering like in a normal divorce. Do it before he gets out.

Get an attorney!!

If you can't afford one, I would imagine that you could get state assistance to get the divorce.

Call your local YWCA Abused Women's Services and see if they have lawyers on staff that can handle that for you. If they cannot help try your local Legal Aid.
