Hank Aaron was the greatest Home run hitter... Without STEROIDS!!! Barry Bonds is the greatest home run hitter... On STEROIDS!!! What happened to Roger Maris when he broke the home run record in game 161 or whatever... They put an astrict by his name.
I mean I like the guy, but all I want is an astrict by his name, the record doesn't even have to show he used steroids.
Can I get a amen!

I don't think you can do it, at least until Bonds either admits to using steroids or until they decide to put asterisks beside the names of a lot of current players, since Barry is far from the only suspected cheat.
I think Barry will get his comeuppance when the time comes for him to go through the HOF voting process. I know that he's never failed a test, but that's only because the steroids he used - the cream and the clear (aka epitesterone and nandrolone) - were undetectable when he used them, and they didn't test for HGH. Anyone who believes he didn't do steroids is the fan equivalent of an ostrich with its head buried in the sand.
I wish I could root for him in the home run chase, but his behavior and actions speak volumes about his character, or lack thereof.

There should be no asterix because there is no proof, only speculation. The court of public opinion is not the same thing as concrete tangible proof. Look at the Feds, they can't indict Barry because they have to prove their case in the legal way in front of a grand jury.
However, an asterix on the entire era (including all players to enter the Hall of Fame) would be ok because there is no denying players of the era used steroids. It's just nearly impossible to definitively determine which players did and did not use steroids. I mean, if Jason Grimsley used steroids then you know other bad players used them too.

No asterisk, here's why:
You would have to put an asterisk on every record (INCLUDING PITCHING) from the mid 80's up to 2003.
The problem with what you said is the problem with MLB. They built a nest in the 90's by turning the other way and letting Sosa and McGuire to slug it out and bring baseball back from it's post strike low.
Now all of the sudden it's a problem? Right... witchhunt is more like it.
The hypocrisy of it all stinks.

As much as I dislike Barry as a player, I think there shouldn't be an asterisk to that record, seeing as how many in that era should probably have
And, frankly, MLB deserves that record for letting the situation go this far. So, enjoy #756, Bud!

I am a huge Giants fan and I have been to many games and cheered for Barry and the boys to win. That being said, I think what Barry did was outrageous and unforgiveable. Not only do I think he needs to be kept out of the record books, I think he deserves nothing less than being completely expunged from all baseball statistics for the entirety of his career.

Amen.....to how you FEEL.
You don't have to tell ME that Bonds cheated. In fact, I DIDN'T like the guy. He is an arrogant, selfish JERK who plays for himself, not the team.
But to answer your question, no.
The problem with asterisks is IT NEVER ENDS. Ruth didn't play with Black players. Maris had more games. Aaron got the benefit of expansion teams. What I'm saying is let the numbers say what they say -- in this case most Home Runs over a career -- and let people decide for themselves what the numbers actually MEAN and "who was better".
But believe me I agree with you. He won't hold the record in MY book.

Another thing....lets watch to see how quickly he shrivels up to normal size like other well known baseball and football steroid users have following his much overdue retirement!

The superior black athlete, indeed. No, I think it was the steroids.
Yes, there should be an asterisk next to his name. There should also be an extra one telling us how he wouldn't sign an autograph for a seriously ill boy because he was white.
