Everyone that's said they were gonna sweep 'em 4 games straight feels pretty dumb right about now i'll bet. If they do end up losing, they're gonna go down fighting to the end. It'll be a 6 or 7 game series for sure, each game being very hard fought.

They surprised the hell out of me too.... they're not the most skilled group of guys in the world, but they're a tough little team.

The Islanders put up a great fight against my Sabres. I am always impressed with Ted Nolan's ability to bring players together. Its unfortunate for the Isles some close goal reviews didn't go their way. Its also too bad that they were missing some great players either due to injury (Martinek) or suspension (Simon and Hill being the latest). But you guys have nothing to be ashamed of, you really made us work for every single win. You will be back strong next year with a complete roster and a motivating coach. The future is bright on Long Island.

I'm not surprised. Three reasons:
1. The Islanders have been forced to play "playoff" hockey for the past month. The Sabres basically coasted to a President Trophy. That made the Islanders better prepared for the playoff environment, making up for some of their deficiencies.
2. Defense and grit. Buffalo's defense has been pretty average this year. The Islanders have been about the same, but they really turned it on toward the end of the season. With the unproven defense for the Sabres, I figured it would not be easy for them to win. Throw in the immense grittiness of the Islanders, it should make for a good series.
3. It is the NHL! How many #6, #7, and #8 seeds have upset the top seeds in the past 20 years? It happens all the time. What you do in the regular season does not mean squat. The playoffs are a whole different monster. That is why the NHL is so great. I would never in a million years bet on a playoff series.
That said, I admit I still picked the Sabres to win, but definitely not a sweep. They are a good team, and their experience from last year will add to their great depth and carry them through. But you just never know for sure...

The truth of the matter is the Isles have been playing playoff games 2 weeks before the playoffs even started. They were fighting for their playoff lifes and just took that momentum into the playoffs. I think the Sabres just got too realaxed being they lead the NHL pretty much the whole season. The Isles winning game 2 just woke the Sabres up. The played good their last game and it would have been 6 or 7 to 2 if Dipietro wasnt playing like a mad man. He is the only one kepping them in this series. But I still think the Sabres take it in 5.

The Sabres will win game 5 tonite and then go back to Bufffalo and put the any hopes you thought the Islanders had to rest. They won one game, the Sabres have been the class of the league all year. Yeah they won a game but the Sabres will end it Friday and win 4 games to 1. You had your little hope, but really, other than Smyth, Blake, and Dipietro the Isanders are BORING! Satan and Yashin are a joke. The Sabres got rid of Satan because he is such a wimp. BYE BYE ISLANDERS!!! SABRES ALL THE WAY1

Not too surprised, they made a great move bringing in Smith. They are a much improved team from early on in the season. It seems every year one of the #1 vs. #8 games goes to game 7. Look at the west last year, seeds 5-8 all won in the first round.
That's why they say, just get there and anything can happen.

They are putting up a fight but the Sabres will still win the series... they didn't want it it four anyways - they like to finish it at home!... The Islanders are being saved by DiPietro though.

I agree with Mr. Taco...it's like I say, seedings only determine where Games 1 and 7 are played. (Case in point: my Red Wings getting it handed to them by #7 and #8-seeds the past three years) Having said that, my answer is yes and no...I thought that Buffalo would have had an easier time over the first three games. But I say no because of the fact that they went out and got a lethal goal scorer at the deadline in Ryan Smyth; that and they've had to play their best hockey just to get in. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one go the full seven games...this is shaping up to be an epic series.

What's one more game. It doesn't matter by how many you win as long as you win. Rangers are going to learn that. They made a mistake running up the score last night.
Isles aren't that good, in fact without the stupid shoot out they wouldn't be in the playoffs. They gained extra points in games that never used to be awarded.
You sound like a pimple faced kid who's never played the game.

I said Sabres in 5... figuring that the Isles would get in one good game. But now I think they have a good chance of forcing game 6 or 7. They definately suprised me..

Ted Nolan is a great motivator>>>>note the word motivator and not coach. He gets the most out of what he has. so i am not surprised i also am not surprised he is having difficulty with Yashin. something about euro-players he does not like it cost him his job once he better be careful
