Car problems, any advice?

I was driving down the highway last week and my car just turned off. First the radio went off, then the speedometer went to 0 and finally the car just completely shut off. I got the car towed to a shop. They said it was the alternator and alternator cable and replaced it. I picked my car up and it died again 15 minutes after driving. Took my car back to the shop and they hooked the battery up to a tester with the car running. The battery continued to lose power right in front of us. The battery is less than 6 months old. The mechanics have no idea what the problem is.

If the battery is not charging, it is more than likely the alternator he replaced is bad, if he just replaced the alternator it should be under warranty. Try another alternator.

Keeping it simple, the car should not need the battery once it's running if the alternator is charging. Either that alternator is not charging or you have a bad wire. The alternator wire that goes to the battery should not be any smaller than 10 gauge. Check the positive battery cable going to the starter, as well as the other starter solenoid wires. Those wires are close to the exhaust and therefore are very susceptable to heat damage.

Either you didn't understand what the shop was doing or they didn't understand what they were doing. You can't test a battery while the car is running. It sounds like they might have sold you a bad alternator and are all idiots.

Have the fusible links checked in the wiring down by the starter motor
