I heard that "nocturnal" people have a shorter lifespan than "diurnal" people.

A lot of stores are closed when you finally get up and get out.
It's always dark while you are awake
You have to be quiet because everyone else is asleep
Other people and animals making noise when you are trying to sleep
On the plus side -
Peace and quiet while you are awake
Less traffic
I tried, but I am in the habit of staying up all night and sleeping a couple of hours during the day. I just can't help it, I am a night person.

I work at a water treatment plant. We do rotating 5/2 shifts and rotating nights/days every 4 weeks. The shifts are 7 to 7 (am to pm, or pm to am depending on if it is the day or night shift). I can tell you from personal experience that staying up all night really messes with your body. You can't sleep as well during the day, so you feel fatigued all the time. I always have gastrointestinal problems during my night shift weeks. I also tend to feel sicker during those weeks. Your body is not meant to be up at those hours.

I used to work night shifts at Youngs packing fish. Did it for 3 years and it did not effect me. But It did take quite some time to get back into sleeping at night after i lost my job.

You will most likely get used to doing that, and it will be hard to sleep at night when you really want to.

Side effects include loss of employment, a feeling of loneliness, an aversion to bright lights (including sunlight), paleness of the epidermis, bloating, heart attack, stroke and in rare cases death. (Sounds like a drug commercial.) :)

Only affect your body clock, most people who work swing shifts are just fine with their sleeping patterns.
