I am watching the news in the UK here and apparently as long as you tick a box saying you have no mental problems you can simply buy a gun from a shop? Is this true? You can buy a gun as easy as a burger? Is this not a little dangerous?

Actually,
It is very hard to buy and own a gun in this country. The Brady Bill states that before you buy a gun, you must wai a period of 5-8 days for a thorough background check to take place. Also if you appear to be threatning,or angry the dealer can refuse to sell to you. Once you recieve your gun you have a few days to apply for a license to carry it. If you cannot get the license the gun will be confiscated because they do another background check. Unfortunately not all stores follow the rules, which is how some guns fall through the cracks...

The guy at the gun shop said that he did a complete background check.
Gun laws are largely determined at a state level.
Here in America, we're allowed to protect ourselves from the government and other predators because our Constitution says we Americans have the right to bear arms.
The guy broke a multitude of laws to kill those people. Adding more laws won't make a difference next time either.
One of the laws he broke was the law about firearms on campus. Perhaps if that law hadn't been written, more people would have had sidearms and the body count would be far less.
It's far more dangerous to wait for the government to protect you than it is to be ready, willing and able to protect yourself.

Yeah, they usually have a 2 month or so waiting period- during which they're supposed to do a backgrouund check on you. Obviously they don't take much into consideration besdes previous deviant/criminal activity.
But, yeah, it's that easy. You need a permit in order to carry one, but of course if you keep it in your room it's not like the cops will even know you have one there and thus, nothing for them to search for.
Those waiting periods are meant to stave off "emotional killings" or the people who feel really angry or need to do a crime immediately. The waiitng period means they cant do anything right away, so they assume people who want to do harm will be put off by this rule and not by a gun.
Judging by the events from Monday, if they want to, they'll wait forever for those guns.

It's not THAT easy, but they are still insanely accessible. There is a five-day waiting period for some guns (handguns, I think). Hunting rifles are easier to get, because they are long-range and not so useful for robberies or whatever, and harder to hide...
I keep wondering where these people get all these guns, semi-automatic pistols and whatever... This is the nature of our gun-culture, apparently.

from what I've learned about the law of gun purchases in Virginia.. it can be just that easy. A burger is quite a bit easier though LOL. Yes, apparently it is dangerous and I wish our country would stop this nonsense!!

The news makes things sound the way they wish them to be. It is not that easy. However, we are citizens and not subjects so we can own firearms. There are dangers in any free society. If we were totally secure then we would not have any freedoms.

Im not american but apparently theyre selling them at Wallmart, where you can find just about everything. So it's part of a lifestyle. Burgers and guns... No wonder those horrible things happen. Sad.

It is true in some states. I for one support our freedom to have them. No it's not dangerous. If you put more restrictions on guns, honest gun owners will be turned into criminals.

that stuff doesn't matter... If he didn't get it legit he would have gotten it off the street.. real conspiracy.. My sister and 3 of her friends died in a triple murder suicide. Her ex who was supposed to be at local department of corrections Facility he bought two guns off the street for like 400 dollars. I went to 4 funerals in 1week. No one cares or wants to hear about that...
